A memorial to Dixie Cornell Gebhardt, creator of the Iowa flag, is located in the Marion County Courtyard. The original design for the Iowa flag is on display in the rotunda of the Marion County Courthouse.

Eight four-foot mechanical figures perform at regular intervals to the music of a 147-bell computer driven carillon. This is one of only a handful of animated musical clocks in the United States.

The current Marion County Courthouse was built in 1896 in the Richardson Romanesque style from Berea limestone. The Courthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
