Job Summary
To serve as the communications link between the citizens of and visitors to Marion County and the Public Safety Agencies which we serve answering emergency and non-emergency calls, dispatching Law Enforcement, Fire and EMS as the need arises via a multi channel radio, entering calls for service, conducting IOWA/NCIC checks, making necessary entries into the IOWA/NCIC system and assisting the Jail as needed.

Job Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Required to Perform Essential Functions
• Associates’ Degree from a two-year college or equivalent certificate from a technical/vocational school or college or equivalent work experience equal to a
minimum of five years fulltime experience as a Communication Officer.
• State of Iowa Department of Public Safety Basic Iowa System Training (B.I.S.T.)
• State of Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Basic Telecommunicator School
• State of Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Advance Telecommunicator School
• Communications Training Officer
• National Incident Management System Training
• Previous Supervisory Experience
• Comprehensive knowledge of one or more technical or skilled functional areas such as would require three years of prior related experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
• Telecommunicator Certification from Iowa Department of Public Safety
Technology Service Division within first six months of employment.
• BIST – Basic Iowa System Training – within first six months of employment.
• BASIC – Beginning Telecommunicator Training within first year of employment.
• Continuation Education – 8 hours annually
• Notary Public
