  • Salary Range: $75,000 to $80,000
  • Hours: Monday - Friday 8 am - 4:30 pm; must be able to work all shifts, days, and locations. Emergency call-in hours as needed.

Job Summary

The IT/GIS Assistant Director is responsible for providing IT support, overseeing the county’s Geographic Information System (GIS), and assisting the IT/GIS Director in managing information technology operations. This position serves as the primary contact for IT Help Desk support, website maintenance, and GIS development, while also supporting the IT/GIS Director with broader county-wide IT initiatives, cybersecurity, disaster recovery, and strategic IT planning.

Job Duties

GIS Functions
•    Plan, direct, implement, and manage the county’s GIS operations, ensuring the system is up to date and effective
•    Develop and maintain GIS data, including aerial photography, survey notes, maps, and reports
•    Build and maintain GIS databases and establish links between various databases such as Beacon, Vision, and Vanguard
•    Provide GIS software support, troubleshooting, and training to end users
•    Assist county officials and the public with GIS-related requests, ensuring map accuracy and usability
•    Support the county’s internal and web-based software systems
•    Supervise, train, and evaluate GIS personnel as needed
•    Manage and plan licensing needs and costs
•    Manage GPS infrastructure and data collection

IT Administration & Strategic Planning
•    Assist in developing and implementing IT policies, objectives, and county-wide technology strategies
•    Assist in working with county departments to assess IT and GIS needs, providing recommendations for future technology implementations
•    Assist in maintaining records of software licenses, hardware assets, and maintenance agreements
•    Assist in the development and implementation of a robust disaster recovery and continuity of operations (COOP) plans
•    Assist in budget planning, procurement of IT-related services and equipment, and ensuring compliance with county policies and vendor contracts
•    Assist in management of servers and virtualized environments
•    Assist with supervising, training, and evaluating IT personnel as needed

IT Help Desk & Technical Support
•    Provide Tier 2 IT Help Desk support to end users, troubleshooting software, hardware, and network issues
•    Provide Tier 1 IT Help Desk training and support to IT helpdesk staff as needed
•    Support various IT systems, including telecommunications, surveillance, door access systems, environmental monitoring systems, software licensing, and technology asset management
•    Monitor and maintain IT service delivery efficiency, assessing workload and troubleshooting IT-related issues
•    Offer cybersecurity training and education to county employees
•    Support various IT systems, including telecommunications, software licensing, and technology asset management
•    May require on-call and after-hours work as needed for IT emergencies and projects

Website & Digital Communication Management
•    First point of contact for maintaining and updating the county’s website and GIS-related online platforms
•    Assist in upgrading website architecture and ensuring accessibility, security, and functionality
•    Assist in managing digital communication efforts, including updating county-wide notification systems and social media platforms
 

Job Qualifications

•    Degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, OR a minimum of four years of equivalent experience
•    Experience with GIS mapping software, this includes but is not limited to ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Enterprise, and ArcGIS Online
•    Experience with IT Help Desk support, cybersecurity best practices, and network troubleshooting
•    Experience with Office 365 administration, backup management software, firewall rules and network troubleshooting
•    Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the essential job function

•    Valid driver’s license.
•    Relevant IT or GIS certifications (preferred but not required)
