Annual Tax Sale Notice
A Note From Your Treasurer Regarding the 2024 Tax Sale:
It’s that time of year when the Treasurer’s office starts planning for the annual tax sale which will be held on June 17, 2024. Delinquent notices were mailed to residents on May 1, and any outstanding property taxes must be paid BEFORE Monday, June 17. Any unpaid taxes as of that date will be sold at the tax sale.
It’s important to note that investors do not purchase properties at tax sale. Investors only pay the outstanding taxes. However, if taxes on that property continue to remain unpaid, the investor can begin legal proceedings to obtain the deed to that property after 1 year and 9 months has elapsed. Once taxes are held in a tax sale, the monthly interest rate on the amount due goes from 1.5% per month to 2% per month. No payments can be accepted on a tax sale. By law, a tax sale must be paid in full to redeem those taxes from the investor.
Our goal in the Treasurer’s office is to help our residents find the best way to pay property taxes timely and avoid the tax sale and additional interest associated with tax sale. Delinquent taxes will be published in the Marion County Express and on our website the week of May 28, 2024. After June 1st, all payments must be cash or certified funds. Personal checks will not be accepted. If we can help, please call the Treasurer’s office at 641-828-2202.
Thank You,
Michaela Bigaouette
