Equality Task Force

posted on 11/2/21

I just wanted to provide you information on a very important initiative that the Marion County Sheriff’s Office is actively involved in. In 2020, our Office began meeting with Iowa Law Enforcement Administrators, NAACP representatives, and community advocates to form the “Iowa Law Enforcement Vision for Equality Task Force.” The task force was formed to seek common ground between Iowa communities and law enforcement, as well as propose and promote change, and strengthen existing relationships between law enforcement and the communities we serve. We have already been actively involved with seeking positive legislation and working to mitigate community issues and unrest around the state. This collaboration brings together the Iowa Nebraska NAACP, Iowa State Sheriff’s and Deputies Association, Iowa Police Chief’s Association, Iowa Department of Public Safety, Unity in the Community, and Iowa Peace Officers Association. We believe our work is an extremely positive example of the impact collaboration between law enforcement and advocacy groups can have on uniting a community to benefit public safety. Our task force continues to actively meet and serve as a resource for all Iowa Communities in need of guidance or assistance. I believe our community should be proud of our pioneering work in this area, and continue to make Iowa an example for the nation.
