Unpaid Property Taxes?

posted on 6/3/22

Do you have unpaid property taxes?

The Annual Tax Sale will be held online on Monday, June 20, 2022.  This means that any unpaid property taxes can be paid to the county on your behalf by an outside investor.  The interest rate increases to 2% per month, an additional $20 certificate fee is due, and partial payments cannot be made on tax sale amount.  By law, the tax sale must be paid in full by the property owner to be redeemed.

This does not mean that you lose your property on June 20.  However, the investor may begin proceedings to acquire the deed to that property in 1 year and 9 months (March 2024) if the tax sale remains unpaid.

GUARANTEED FUNDS ONLY ARE ACCEPTED BEGINNING JUNE 6.  THE LAST DAY TO PAY BEFORE THE TAX SALE IS FRIDAY JUNE, 17, IN OFFICE.

The 2022 Tax Sale Terms and Conditions is available on the Treasurer’s Tax Sale page of this web site.  The parcels listed for tax sale were published in the May 27 issue of the Marion County Express and on our website.   https://marioncountyiowa.gov/treasurer/tax_sale/

Not sure if your taxes are paid?  Property taxes are public record.  You may search any tax records by clicking the “Pay Taxes” link on the Treasurer page of this website:   https://marioncountyiowa.gov/treasurer/property_taxes/(Search hint:  Type last name only OR parcel OR street address.  Do not fill in more than one of these fields)
