Available Records

Iowa birth records from 1987 to the current date are available in all counties in Iowa regardless of the county the event occurred.

Birth events that took place in Marion County between 1880 to 1987 are available at the Marion County Recorder’s office. (There are some instances where the record may not be available at the county level.)

Marion County has limited birth records between 1921 and 1941. We can work with the Iowa Department of Public Health if needed to obtain these records.

Marion County does NOT have access to single-parent birth records prior to July 1995, nor do we have access to adoption birth records. The Iowa Department of Public Health, State Vital Records is able to assist you with obtaining these records.
